Opening Cliff Chest: When to Return with Hunter's Chain Sickle

Return to the opening cliff chest after obtaining Hunter’s Chain Sickle from The Hunt. Follow the landmarks and keep its traversal ability separate from combat upgrades.

On this page 4 sections

The chest visible across the cliff near the start is meant for a return visit. Obtain the chain-sickle Hunter’s Chain Sickle, then come back. Repeatedly trying to jump across on your first visit will not replace the missing equipment.

Make sure this is the right chest

Return to the spot where Soul first wakes up. Look back toward the opposite side of the cliff: a body, Gu Lingran, and a chest are visible there. The red map marker identifies the chain-sickle as the missing requirement.

Use all three landmarks together: the waking location, the body and chest across the gap, and the equipment requirement on the map. Other red markers may require different items.

Defeat the boss at the large waterfall

Continue through the story until you reach Great Waterfall. Defeating the boss there, The Hunt, Sixfold Scythe, awards the chain-sickle.

The weapon also has a combat skill, Shadow Bound, that unlocks at level 5. That upgrade is a separate combat milestone. For this return route, the requirement is obtaining the chain-sickle itself.

Return to the cliff

  1. After receiving the chain-sickle, open the map and check the marker at the starting cliff.
  2. Return to Soul’s original waking location and face the side with the body and chest.
  3. Follow the traversal prompt to reach the opposite side, then check the body and chest.

If you lose your bearings, mark the destination on the map, return to play and hold the guidance input. The default is V on PC or the map button on a controller. Use your configured binding if it has changed.

Keep separate return destinations marked

The waterfall boss also unlocks a reason to return to the tower elsewhere in the valley. That key pickup is a different destination from the opening chest. The valley return checklist keeps the two stops separate.

Before trying the crossing again, confirm that you have defeated the waterfall boss, received the chain-sickle and returned to the original waking location. If the map still shows a missing requirement, inspect that exact prompt before attempting the jump again.
